The party does not officially endorse candidates.
More than 50 members of the New South Wales National Party have been elected to local government in the recent statewide elections as Independent Nationals.
6 News understands a total of 53 Nationals members were elected across 40 local government areas, including two who were popularly-elected in the mayoral elections.
This includes Nikki Williams, a Nationals member running with "Team Nikki", who was elected mayor of Coffs Harbour. She received the endorsement of local state Nationals MP Gurmesh Singh.
The Nationals currently do not endorse in local government elections anywhere in the country, although rare endorsements were made in the past. This makes them the largest political party to currently avoid local elections endorsements, with the Liberals, Labor and Greens doing so in various states.
Independent National councillor Logan Collins, who has been re-elected to a second-term on Cootamundra–Gundagai Regional Council, told 6 News last month that while he thinks the Nationals "should be involved at a grasroots level", he isn't sure that he would choose to be endorsed by the Nationals if given the chance.
Although it's very early days, there's no indication the Nationals have plans to endorse for the 2028 local elections in New South Wales or in any other state.
